Throwback Thursday: Who wants to be the smartest game show contestant

Back in the day, being smart, knowing it all, was so not cool. Tell that to 1 million dollar-winner John Carpenter, who answered every question on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?"

Beyonce at the bus stop

Not the ad.

New Yawkers: Have you peeped the billboard ad of Beyonce for H&M?

If so, was she covered? Apparently, some residents do not understand the point of a bikini; almost every day, the bottom-half of Mrs. Carter's summery outfit is covered!

The UK's Daily Mail is laughing at us about the cover-up, with one story commenter called us "prudish". I call it confusing: how else is someone supposed to sell swimwear? O.o

Well, we can't share pics here, so click the link and enjoy. Because, we just cannot get enough of Beyonce, right?

Where do buses go to retire? Disneyland!

Reportedly, the average costs of a metropolitan bus are between $300,000 to $600,000. Therefore, it should come to no surprise that the powers that be want to find more usage for the old buses when, like other vehicles, they are ridden until their wheels fall off.

In California, local government officials send their buses to Disneyland to serve as shuttles between the park and the various parking lots. In other parts of the country, buses are sold to the private sector for all sorts of light transportation duties.

Why not refurbish the buses to keep them in service?
In some cases, older bus models aren't equipped with wheelchair access ramps, a mandatory item these days. In other cases, there is simply too much of a risk to keep older buses on the road. Should anything occur in which an old, "gave out" bus is concerned...imagine the lawsuits!

If you could afford to buy one, what would you do with a retired bus?

Bus stop brawl: Sometimes you need to stay on the bus.

Recently in Pennsylvania two school bus stop fights broke out, with adults and kids! Of course, someone was brave enough to break out their phone to catch the events. There is no reported reasoning behind the melees but I'm thinking it went something like this:

"I heard you was tallin'bout me."
"Yeah, and..."
"Keep my name out your mouf..."
"Or whut?"
*Pow*
"Dat's whut..."

And crews for both parties jumped in, because...you know...that's what you're 'sposed to do. No matter how OLD you are...

By the way, today is the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King. The irony, huh?

Throwback Thursday: What are the odds?

When spinning the Price is Right wheel -- da wheel! -- there is only one rule: beat your opponent without going over $1.00. That's it. No need to have a tutorial, seminar or a "For Dummies" book within arms' reach. You are already a winner.

You're one of the top three winners to make it to the wheel. This means that the hardest portion of the show (getting picked) is already over. You just have one job at that point, stand on stage and spin the damned wheel, without exceeding a dollar. This means when the first dude spins .10 (must have been a tie-breaking spin) all you have to do is beat a dime. That's it. *Kicks soda can down an alley*
It sucks to be him...years after this throwback first aired.

3 reasons to get on the bus (the next time you need to get out of town)

Megabus is also found in the UK. Image source: geograph.org.uk
Here's a new year's resolution for you: don't make 2013 another stay-at-home vacation year. With companies like Megabus behind the wheel, getting you there on the cheap is a thankful possibility in today's economy. Keep reading for three reasons why you need to take the bus to your next US-based destination.

It's safe. The "Chinese buses", as they was once called, are now found in safe, family-friendly bus stops. No longer will you need to fear the hood. And no need to be stressed while en route, either.  The buses are equipped with seat belts, even though it's not even mandatory!

It's convenient. Unlike the airport, there is no need to drive 30 miles or more to head out of town. Bus stops are located in nearby neighborhoods, to accommodate those who are more likely to hop on board -- students and the budget conscious.

It's cheap. This is the main reason for an increase in ridership, as noted in this article. So if you have a few hours to kill, save hundreds of dollars on a flight (and checked luggage) and get on the bus.

If you can afford basic cable then you can afford to take advantage of round-trip ticket into a major -- or not so major -- destination. This isn't the 80s bus service you once succumbed to...

Throwback Thursday: Who wants to be... embarrassed on national TV?

You have the opportunity of the lifetime. The chance to win a million dollars. As long as you get through the first few easy questions, you should be fine. Wait...you actually have to answer the first question -- usually the easiest one -- correctly? And don't brag about not getting any sleep and drinking coffee to stay awake.

He clearly needed some rest. Youngsters. Anyway, please enjoy this week's throwback game show, the first of 2013!
